Blood Omen review

Recommending you this video on YouTube Halloween Special Legacy of Kain by RetroGamer3 Best review I've seen on Legacy of KAIN: Blood Omen It's sad how ignored and underrated this game is, RetroGamer3 is right about that. I've seen some people too who counts the Legacy of Kain series from Soul Reaver, or doesn't really knows what Blood Omen is about, and also not knowing Kain's person (knowing him from Soul Reaver only, but it shows such a distorted, subjective "how Raziel saw the world" image, so Kain is hell out of character, the badass hero of Blood Omen became a secondary "antagonist" in his own story) So, Blood Omen, the original Legacy of Kain deserves more appreciation than it gets :)

Blood Omen 1 troubleshooting

In case you want to run Blood Omen on newer configurations.

First, you may can't install the game from disc as the installer panel says you don't have the required 190.000 KB-s free space to install (even if you have gigabytes of free space)
Get Cuban Raul's patch to make installing possible home.comcast.net/~heavyweights… New working link Cuban Raul BO installer

Before you'd try running the game, know that it's not really the OS, but rather the hardwares that are buggering the game. BO1 was running fine on my Dino, even without any patches, although it had XP on it. But it won't work and the game is getting stuck right after the scene in the inn if your processor is over 1.5 GHZ, the link above is supposed to work for dual core processors, but this patch was needed to run BO1 on quadcore (I didn't felt familiar with trying to use a lot of CPU grabbers) : data.hu/get/5256634/bo1_patch.… or www.4shared.com/rar/gU4VZiu2/b… (the patch is from Eidos forums)

To make things for sure, Win7 has a compatibility mode for the previous Windows systems, so Win95 mode can be added on BO1, and running it is fine. :)

If you don't have BO1 yet, you can try this cvr.pl/gry/legacy-of-kain-bloo… the site is polish, but the game itself if the original english. But it is not the fullgame, the cutscenes and some features are disabled.

Blood Omen 2 troubleshooting

That infamous freezing issue.

Windows7 is maybe not friendly with Blood Omen 2.
Known problem: the game worked fine on WinXP (it rarely got locked up) but after changing the OS for Win7, the game keeps locking up at random places, may can play it for about an hour before it starts locking up, or starts freezing a few minutes after you started it. And once it keeps freezing, you're unable to play it (Opening Taskbar and shut the game down - restarting game - freezes again - opening Taskbar again- and so on...)
If this problem is familiar, the solution is very easy: Run it under Win98 compatibility mode. That's all :)

Blood Omen update

Recently I couldn't make Blood Omen work despite of the patching I used before. Had my OS changed twice since the last game install (had been on W7 Ultimate), I'm on Win7 Enterprise 64 bits and the game crashed at the first fmv or skipped the videos as if they weren't there.
So I needed an entirely different way to make it run than I used above.

1. Install the game via Cuban Raul's patch home.comcast.net/~heavyweights… New Website is gone and as I couldn't find the installer patch anywhere else available to download here's a link to my copy of it Cuban Raul BO installer
2. Check the game folders you got and make a copy of your kain file that has tons of *.jam and *VAG files in it and store it somewhere else on your computer

3. Download the BO bink support patch nosgothica.org/games/paul_met/…
Because it's the fmv-s that blocking the game from running they're needed to be converted to bink.
Run the patch, install it to your game root folder to align the kain.exe. If you install it to the wrong place or to a subfolder it reports error with the conversion

4. You'll find your original *.jam and *.VAG files in bink format, also .dll files and a new kain.exe you'll need later

5. Grab your copy of the kain folder you stored before with the *.jam and *.files, drop the folder inside the newly converted kain folder. In short you have a kain folder in the root files with the bink files, and a subfolder in it also called kain with the original jam and vag files.

6. amongst the bink files you have to find binkBO32.dll and binkw32.dll, move them to the root menu to align the kain.exe. I had binkw32(2).dll and binkbo(2).dll also, as they were different size pulled them out to the root folder too. Also you need to have a kain.exe amongst the binks (tagged with "bink support creator Booster and Wrace www.Nosgothica.org" when running it) drag it to the root files and replace the original kain.exe with it
Your files and folders should look like this  3o9k by KainTheVampireLord

7. run the game and enjoy :)

Added Sacred to this thread, loved this game but had issues with it under Win7.

Sacred on windows 7

Problem: Starting the game an error says "it's not designed for 64 bit system"

Solving: You'll need the Sacred Underworld/gold edition installed over the original Sacred files. Sacred 1 is not going to work without the expansion. Set Underworld's compatibility to Windows XP sp 2 and install the Sacred patch ver. 2.28 on it.
Enjoy gaming :)

Do you know where I can get the files for the cut scenes.  If not I will have to buy it off amazon I guess.  Still thank you for this otherwise it would not be working at all.
